Final verdict: 7/10 ★★★⋆˙⟡☆
Right, this is more like it; you see, I was fairly judgmental of Alias Wayne’s last release, “Castles In the Sky,” and I like to think I had a point in saying what I said. But Mr. Wayne made up for it, at last and after all; in come “Tribute,” his latest single, and we have got something nice to work with!
This is a sweet little song, it turns out. The arrangement is less folk rock-y than what is usual of Alias Wayne, and more bedroom pop-esque – a fun turn in direction, as much as I love folk rock. What you see is what you get; “Tribute” is a straight-forward indie rock tune that would not sound awfully out of place on the back end of an album like Cheer Chen’s “Lonely Without You.”
Songs like this are, for better or for worse, a dime a dozen, but who am I to turn down a song on such a basis? My only real complaint is the sore lack of a tangible hook in the chorus, but “Tribute” is alright – really.
