Final verdict: 7/10 ★★★⋆˙⟡☆
Dusty Edinger is a singer-songwriter I admire and have extensively covered on this website before. I was going to call it quits until he released his new single “Beginning to Break” just a couple of days ago – now you bet I am reviewing it.
“Beginning to Break” stays true to Dusty’s established pop-rock sound, alluding to rockabilly and other old-timey rock and roll traditions. The hook in the chorus absolutely carries this song, and the lyrics are classic Dusty as much as the music is – they are half witty, half sentimental, and 100% sing-along material.
I find the verses to be lacking when contrasted to the big chorus, which is a letdown, knowing Dusty Edinger – the man can absolutely write great songs, but I suppose not every single one of them will be up to par with “Welcome to Our Demise.” Oh well.
Nevertheless, I am always delighted to see Dusty release something new; as traditional as his music might be, it is without fail a breath of fresh air, and for that, I can’t help but highly esteem it.
