Have you made the grave mistake of reading the news recently? If so, you may be familiar with the mayhem ongoing in the United States of America. I do not typically delve into political commentary here, and I will not give you a complete rundown (for brevity’s sake and for this is not a news website), but there is this little big thing called “ICE,” and what they do is… deport “illegals” through violent means – like, really violent. Imagine the worst. It really does more harm than good, and unlike what it says on the tin, it is not exactly “saving” the nation – or so I’m told, allegedly and I am informed.
Darrell Kelley (the Atlanta-based jack-of-all-trades that I have previously covered here) once again brings us a politically-charged single, this time around, precisely about the little big thing called “ICE.” That single is none other than “ICE Cold Killerz” – a smart play on words that is indicative of the true nature of the US government’s handling of its immigration overload. The singer-songwriter-turned-activist gives us a catchy hip-hop tune that, just like its predecessor “Sick of This,” is complete with cinematic production and a bigger-than-life soundmosphere (that is a new world I just coined, do you like it?). It’s not much, but it is something for sure, and as I have recently remarked, music has always constituted a vehicle for activist commentary, a notion that has been gaining increasing momentum in recent times.
Darrell Kelley once again proves himself to be on the right side of history, in more ways than one. “ICE Cold Killerz” gives us a slice of American life as it stands, while also being a solid musical venture in its own right. There is nothing to complain of – the guy is doing it by the book. 8/10.
