Solid Gold – Government Grade (2026)

Final verdict: 8/10 ★★★★☆

Music (and art at large) has always acted as a Trojan horse for political discourse. In 2026 more than ever before, with the United States up ablaze and the whole world down with it, politically charged art is of critical importance. That is the background against which Minnesota-based rock collective Solid Gold released their “Government Grade” last month – a fresh new single dripping with contempt over the US government’s deceitful tactics and unethical practices.

What can I say? This tune is very orchestral, very cinematic, and dare I say, classical-crossover-ish. It really is most pleasing to the ear, this juxtaposition of big Brian May-esque guitars with anthemic synthesizers and lush strings. The recent re-evaluation of hippie counterculture is what brings us such artwork – and I am rather grateful for it. God bless, guys.

Beyond simply raising awareness for the issue at hand, Solid Gold has gone as far as donating all proceeds from this single’s Bandcamp sales to miscellaneous Minnesota Mutual Aid funds. Yes, ladies and gentlemen – you read that correctly. Solid Gold are helping fight the good fight amidst “the predicament,” so go help yourself to a digital download – it’s a good ‘un!
