Final verdict: 7/10 ★★★⋆˙⟡☆
I have been aware of Blind Uncle Harry for a while, having been introduced to him through his 2025 single “Kimberly Kankowski.” For better or for worse, I chalked him up to being a “comedy rock” act (as much as I hate to slap that label on music, because what do I know, the guy might be earnest and not a funnyman in the slighest!), though I enjoyed his song plenty. But now he came out with “Shambala Warrior,” a song that is… oddly heartfelt? Blind Uncle Harry has more in him than jokey pieces about the extremes of woke culture, it appears, and I have been humbled.
In his liner notes for “Shambala Warrior,” Harry provides some valuable commentary as applies to the song. Rumor has it, there is a Tibetan Buddhist prophecy about “Shambala warriors” that will emerge when the world is close to destruction to bring forth positive energy. As part of the Bodhisattva tradition, people who have achieved enlightenment choose to be reborn to help others progress in their spiritual efforts, and Blind Uncle Harry actually met a Bodhisattva who was his muse in creating “Shambala Warrior,” an ear-tickling folk-rock song about healing the world bit-by-bit through compassion and love.
The song features Myklos Santorini on sitar and Shelby Jo Everett on co-lead vocals, and it is a pretty tune, indeed. The lyrics are simple and to the point: “Hey girl, let’s take them on / Let’s love and laugh and fight while we still can / Girl, be beautiful for those of us who can’t.” I would say that this is the energy the world needs at the moment, though I wish the song had a little something more in the ear candy department. I love cheap thrills, and this is a thrill a bit too expensive for me to really appreciate, though I do appreciate it on a fundamental level. Thanks, Blind Uncle Harry! I promise I’ll “get” your next single more, because I do like what you’ve got going on although it’s not really my cup of tea this time around. 7/10.
