Final verdict: 7/10 ★★★⋆˙⟡☆

Look, if you told me that there is a Christian rock band out there whose debut single sounds like it could’ve been the brainchild of Sheena Ringo à la Shōso Strip, I would have laughed a little bit. I would’ve laughed, but eventually, my amusement would give way to a much different sentiment – one of gleeful confusion. And it really is lucky that we have all gathered here today, because 2OF13 just so happen to be a Christian rock band whose debut single sounds like it could’ve been the brainchild of Sheena Ringo à la Shōso Strip – oh my, dreams do come true.

No, seriously – “fracture” is the band’s only song to date, and it completely dismantles the concept of Christian rock, inside-out style. It is noisy, it is grunge-y, and you can barely pick the vocals out of the crowded mix. The drums are thumping as if there is no tomorrow, and the guitar appears keen to please jangle-pop traditions – and yet it is totally alternative in spirit. It is a garage recording in the grandest sense, and I would whine about it being a little too short for my ear to truly grasp onto it, but I am detecting a certain punk-rock ethic that might altogether disregard track length as a concept, so I might not be qualified to complain.

When all’s said and done though, I quite dig “fracture” – I can only hope that there will be an album to accompany it, because I have always longed for a Shōso Strip 2.0.
