Final verdict: 9/10 ★★★⋆˙⟡☆
Smooth, jazzy, soulful, flirtin’ – all of the aforementioned are adjectives that aptly describe Reggie Braxton’s newly-arrived single “Flirtin’.” The singer-songwriter – as hard as it might be to find any definitive information about him (“age of information” be damned!) – appears to be a master of the laid-back RnB craft, and so, he managed to turn an ordinary “I love you”-proclaimin’ tune into something rather magnificent.
Do not get me wrong, the songwriting is good, but I am most keen on the arrangements and performance here. The keyboards? Honey-sweet. The percussion? Groovy. The bassline? Funky, and the vocals? Dripping with conviction. This guy is, for all intents and purposes, flirtin’ – flirtin’ with the subject of his song, flirtin’ with the part of my brain that processes sound, and flirtin’ with the prospect of gospel music. Is there much more to be said? That we live in the “age of information” is a Trojan Horse – “vibes” have before long replaced substance, and the vibes Reggie presents us with here are marvelous… are you feeling me? I would say that I am feeling myself. Culture is a melting pot of “vibes” that I am perpetually drowning in, and “Flirtin’” is one of numerous vibes composing it. I wouldn’t have it any other way – 9/10.
