Final verdict: 8/10 ★★★★☆
Acting as Functional and I go way back – and if you happen to be a keen reader of this very blog, you will be familiar with this moniker. Last I met him, he handed me ol’ “Tick Tock Bump and Boom,” which was a staggering improvement over the his earlier work – only now we have something bigger yet. You see, the singer-songwriter’s new song “No Go Battle Zone” sees him firing on all cannons straight out the gate; everything about this piece screams “progress,” as I will briefly illustrate.
What set “Tick Tock Bump and Boom” apart from its predecessors was the refined instrumentation – it was all unprecedentedly fleshed-out, and it really did Acting as Functional major justice, as it allowed his songwriting to shine through without the listener getting sidetracked by the peculiar-to-say-the-least aural experience. What was, however, still lacking, was some emotion in the performance department. But fear not – in come “No Go Battle Zone,” and that issue is at once tackled. The vocals here are so much more vivid, colorful, emotive; Adam’s voice blends with the lush instrumental track beautifully, making this peace-supportin’, love-makin’ tune a specimen to gladly behold.
“No Go Battle Zone” is a staggering improvement atop yet another staggering improvement. Acting as Functional is catching on, and he’s catching on fast. I would watch this space, if I were you – but I am not you, now am I? All I am saying is that if I hypothetically were you, I’d be paying keen attention. Are you listening? Hey! Pay attention. Watch this space.
